Name calling

On the one hand, I think it’s impertinent and borderline rude to use the familiar form of someone’s name (Andrew to Andy, say) before you know whether they prefer the shortened form.

On the other hand, being called by a nickname you dislike should not be the end of the world.

Sounds like the senator needs to have a little sit-down with the woman running his office, to talk about public image.

You know, this may sound odd, but I really sympathize with Becton. Reading the emails, I can see that she went way overboard, but it’s possible that this email exchange came after ten other people called her Liz.

Michael, don’t you think she needed to drop the matter after she received a genuine apology from this person? If she’s mad at 10 other people, she ought not take it out on the person who apologized.

After being hollered at multiple times, I would have been sorely tempted to call her Betsy, Libby, Lizzie, Eliza, Liddy, and Beth.
