A group of actors out in Los Angeles are midway through a long run of the plays I wrote in college. The production has a Facebook page overflowing with support from the young troupe’s friends, and it’s been very flattering and sweet to follow along.
This evening I realized that when I wrote these plays, almost twenty years ago now, the people currently acting in them were babies wearing diapers. Indeed, there’s a very good chance some of them were not yet born.
My brain is having a hard time processing this concept.
On the one hand, it’s nice to have written something that people still think is worth performing. A lot of plays have come and gone over the last twenty years, so even if I personally have a… challenging relationship with my past work, it’s really kind of awesome that it’s still out there, getting done.
On the other hand, goddamn but I feel old right now.

Congratulations/condolences, Eric. My wish to the world right now would be for everyone to have as gentle a moment as your seems to be when that feeling arrives.
Let me know when you want me to show those whippersnappers how to do Benny right.
Rather than feeling old, focus on feeling like your time here mattered
