About Me

I’m the author of the Winston Breen series of kids’ books: The Puzzling World of Winston Breen, The Potato Chip Puzzles, and The Puzzler’s Mansion. As you might guess, I like puzzles a lot — both solving them and constructing them.

I’m married to Janinne Berlin, and we have two great kids — Alex (13) and Lea (11). We have a 3-year-old border collie named Maggie and a cat named M.J. We all live in Connecticut.

If you’re doing a book report or something and want more biographical detail, there’s an actual encyclopedia entry about me here. (It’s a little outdated, but that’s okay.)

I can be reached at ericberlin@gmail.com.

  3. I was happy to see that one other person understands the commercials meaning that redbull will
turn you into an angel…hence dead person. I think you nailed it on the head. I have NO idea how
no one understands that message in the commercials but what a claim in court that they WARNED the public with their commercials that even those that cannot read warnings can watch and SEE that it kills you. Nice post! Franco

My son is doing a book report and needs to know when and where you were born? We have googled you but this information is missing or not anywhere where we looked. Great books

  6. Thanks, J.L.! You didn’t leave me your e-mail address, so I’ll have to reply here and hope you come back and see this. I don’t recall if I physically describe Winston all that much in the books — probably not, since you’re here asking about it. I’m not one who thinks it vital to describe characters down to the last detail. I’m more concerned with how the characters’ personalities — how they behave, how they talk — because that lets the readers picture them much better than knowing their hair color. If someone is particularly tall or short or fat or whatever, I’ll say so, but beyond that, I trust the readers and their imaginations: However they want the characters to look, that’s probably right.

  10. Hi Claudia — Sorry I didn’t see your comment until now. I think it’s very cool that my books have made it around the world, and that kids in New Zealand are enjoying them! (I’m in Connecticut, USA… so, pretty far away.) I hope you enjoy the other books, too!
